If you think that you have been hearing more about travel to Iceland, you aren't mistaken. Iceland is one of the hottest travel destinations right now. Iceland promises scenic landscapes, pristine backdrops, and lots of adventure. With all this going for it, Iceland has quickly become a hotspot for tourists all over the globe.

Reykjavik

Iceland's capital has so much to offer, despite it’s size. This picturesque city has quite a few direct flights. It's a great “base camp” for travelers wishing to couple their outdoor adventure with a warm and comfortable hotel. Everything from natural wonders to interesting people can be found in or near this popular city. There's plenty of nightlife for those looking for some cocktails and dancing! In fact, night owls will be ecstatic to find that many of Iceland's residents like to party into the wee hours.

Something for Everyone

If you prefer the great outdoors, Iceland has much to offer. Natural hot springs and geysers dot the area and are easily accessible via tours and hikes. Love the snow and ice? Hop on a tour via snowmobile or snowshoe and take in the vast landscape on land. If it's the sea you seek, there are plenty of water tours available for whale watching and enjoying the scenery along the coast. If it's pampering you fancy, look no further than one of Iceland's many natural geothermal spas, Blue Lagoon being the most well-known. Travelers will find themselves with plenty to do in the area, whether adventure or relaxation is on the menu.

Iceland in Winter

Many tourists flock to Iceland in the summer months, but travel to Iceland during the winter can be exceptionally beautiful. There are plenty of tours and hikes available in the crisp winter air. There are amazing glacier hikes and snowshoeing available to see some of Iceland's most beautiful landscapes.
If you are like many other visitors, you will most definitely want to see the Northern Lights. Nature's colorful light show is sprawled across the night sky for all to enjoy. Some tours are on foot and others are by boat, but both will give you a spectacular view of this light show. It is most definitely a must-see on your trip.

The Golden Circle

Nature's beauty can be seen all along this popular tourist route. This area showcases Iceland's most stunning natural wonders. Explore Geysir, Iceland's answer to Yellowstone. This beautiful stop boasts exploding geysers, boiling mud pits and the famous Strokkur hot spring. Gullfoss, Iceland's two-tiered waterfall is another must-see. Most tours spend some time at Thingvellir as well, where tourists can spend some time exploring on their own. Thingvellir National Park boasts some of the most breathtaking views Iceland has to offer. Check out the place where two of the Earth’s tectonic plates have separated to reveal stunning cliffs and fissures.

Did I mention the Food?

Here's a shocker - food is on my Top Five list.  For those of you that know me, or have been reading my blog, I'm sure you were expecting this since I seem to travel to world to try the world's food!  Iceland is no different.  There are lots of interesting and popular foods to try in Iceland. Some, perhaps, not quite for the American palate!  (I'm talking to you, fermented shark!) For breakfast, you'll find Skyr, which is a thick, delicious yogurt that tastes way better than Dannon ever did!  There are bakeries all over, selling delicious little cakes and breads - be sure to check out Braud & Co in Reykjavik.  You also must try the lamb - I'm not a fan but I loved the way that it is prepared there - and the fisherman's stew, a thick and creamy stew with potatoes and fresh fish. Don't forget the famous Reykjavik hot dogs.  As a Chicago girl, I thought that there was no way that I would like hot dogs from Iceland.  After all, the best hot dogs are found at Gene and Jude's, just outside of Chicago.  However...the hot dogs in Iceland are amazing!  They are different, made mostly with lamb, and the toppings are very different, but it all works.  And at around 450ISK, it's a true bargain!

If you're ready to explore all that Iceland has to offer, get that passport ready and join us!  Get all of the details here.
